
Family Based Green Card
Someone who wants to live permanently in the United States must obtain an immigrant visa (IV). In order to apply for an IV, the person must be supported by an immediate relative who is at least 21 years old and is a US citizen or Lawful Permanent Resident (green card holder) in the US.
There are two types of family-based immigrant visas:
Immediate Relative - these visas are based on a close family relationship with a US citizen, such as a spouse, child or parent. The number of immigrants in these categories is not limited each fiscal year.
