What is a Green Card?

A Green Card is the generic name for an identity card issued by the US Government that shows that you are a permanent resident of the United States. Having a Green Card is the last step before you become an American citizen.

The Green Card was renamed the Permanent Resident Card in 1998. In 2023, the card was completely renewed and had the following features:

The design of the Statue of Liberty has been updated.
Data fields were displayed in different locations than in previous versions of the cards.
Removed the display of the cardholder's fingerprint on the front.
A new haptic print that better integrates with the design.
Advanced optical variable ink and highly secure holographic images on the front and back of the cards.
Added a new layer with a partial window in the back photo box.

How to Become a Green Card Holder?

The most well-known way is to participate in the Green Card lottery. There are other ways to obtain permanent residency and work authorization in the US. You can get a Green Card through a US employer or as a family member of a US citizen or legal resident under certain conditions. There are also Green Cards for foreign entrepreneurs, for asylum or amnesty seekers, or for members of religious denominations who fall under the special immigration category.
